Disability art exhibition receives $10k grant funding

Posted 3 months ago.

Footscray Community Arts Centre (FCAC) have been granted $10,000 to host an event that engages people with a disability in a creative setting.

The ‘ArtLife Intersections Forum and Exhibition’ is set to take place in 2018 following the funding from the State Trustees Australia Foundation (STAF) Grassroots Grant program.

Through Artlife, artists with a disability in collaboration with professional tutors create new work, build capacity and help change perceptions.

They facilitate these opportunities through visual art, performance, music, sound art, digital media, animation, horticulture, hospitality, photography and movement.

STAF’s Executive General Manager of Client Services Melanie Lewis says supporting Victorian-based initiatives that help give back has always been their goal.

“As a state based organisation, we are always looking at ways to give back to the local communities across Victoria to help protect those who are vulnerable or those who might need a little extra support,” Mrs Lewis says.

“We’re really excited about the scope of activities our grants are funding this year which will have a positive impact on communities.”

State Trustees help Victorians with their financial needs so they can make the most of their opportunities.

About $200,000 has been granted to 20 not-for-profit organisations by the Foundation in their 2017 grassroots grants program.

“We are aiming to ensure all areas of the community have a sense of social inclusion,” Mrs Lewis says.

“These projects like the one at Footscray Community Arts Centre are central to giving individuals, including those living with a disability, a voice.”

Mrs Lewis says it’s inspiring to see the great work that the grassroots organisations do with the funding.
